The only way to put an image on a keycap that survives daily typing is dye-sublimation printing: under heat the dye penetrates the PBT plastic itself, so the artwork physically cannot peel or rub off. Stickers and hand-painting fail within weeks on a surface you hit thousands of times a day.

Why stickers and hand-painting don't last
A keycap is one of the most-touched surfaces you own. Vinyl stickers lift at the edges within weeks, and acrylic paint wears through even under a clear coat.
Dye-sublimation is different in kind, not degree: the image isn't a layer on top of the cap — the dye is driven into the plastic. There is nothing to peel, chip or wash off.
What images print best on keycaps
A single keycap is roughly a 1.5 × 1.5 cm canvas, so high-contrast art with clear shapes reads best at that size — think emblems, icons, character faces, bold linework.
Detailed artwork — full anime illustrations, photos, wallpapers — works great when spanned across a group of keys or the whole board, where it gets a much larger effective canvas.
Anime, game and brand art: a note on rights
For a personal one-off set, printing your favourite character is your call. If you publish the design to the olw0 community or sell it with a markup, use artwork you own or have the right to use — the responsibility for uploaded content is the uploader's.

Can I print a photo on a keycap?
Yes — any raster image can be printed. Small 1-key prints favour simple, high-contrast images; photos look best spanned across several keys.
Can one image cover multiple keys?

Will the printed image rub off?
No. Dye-sublimation puts the dye inside the PBT plastic, not on the surface — it can't peel, chip or fade from typing.
